Marbles are something that shows like Hey Arnold or Rugrats made seem big. Little dumb me thought kids everywhere were running around throwing around the spheres. For some reason, it didn’t feel like “jacks” where it was an old-timey thing that had gone away with the decades. Oh no, every corner I turned between the ages of 6 and 16 I was ready to see people tossing marbles down, shooting marbles, however you say it. Heck, weren’t marbles what Kevin Mccarthy used in Home Alone to trip up Joe Pesci (hot chance I’m 0-2 on those characters/actors)? Marbles seemed to be everywhere but my life. Make me ballpark the number of times I’ve ever been in contact with marbles in my whole life, and I’d hit you with twice. What makes it seem so important is that it’s a word that doesn’t jump out at the page at you. Thus, it’s become normal. We all say marbles at least once every 3 months I’d bet, that’s a big part of our lives, and it made me think it was going to be something I needed to be better at.
If you came up to me today and said Paul, I need 10 marbles in the next 2 hours, I wouldn’t have a shot. Just no chance at success. Where do you even start? Off the top of my head for stores that would have marbles, I’d say either Walgreens, Home Depot, or Michaels. Those stores have nothing alike, I’m just trying to cover all my bases.
