Talking 1984-1996-2003 type draft.
Last few years, there were a few guys at the top that were works in progress, or maybe the occasional star (KAT). But for the most part, you had top 10 players who were going to be career role players on their teams. And every team knew that coming in. Outside of the top 2, teams haven’t been trying to find franchise players.
That changes in 2017. There’s 6-7 legitimate franchise players that’ll go in the top 10 in Lonzo Ball, Dennis Smith, Josh Jackson, De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, and Jayson Tatum, and you could even stretch in a Markelle Fultz or Harry Giles (but we still need more).
But don’t think it’s a top heavy draft, because then you get deeper in the first round and in the whole draft, and there’s STUPID amounts of talent. Whether it’s a ridiculous athlete like Miles Bridges who just needs some touching up, or some second year players who stayed around to hone their skills ala Ivan Rabb, Dwayne Bacon, Dillon Brooks, Alonzo Trier, Swanigan, and more. And don’t forget about the 12th year seniors like Melo Trimble and Nigel Hayes.
We’re not going to see a draft like last year where it’s a million international guys who we’ll never watch play. Put it in the record books now, because we’ve got a good one coming.
