I’m not a big hockey guy at all, just your typical bandwagon Blackhawks fan. I start watching late in the 2nd round of the playoffs because I really just want to go to the parade with some knowledge. Nonetheless a great story is a great story and sports always seem to produce them.
Last night the Ottawa Senators ended the Edmonton Oilers six game win streak behind the performance of Ottawa’s Craig Anderson. Last week Anderson’s wife was diagnosed with cancer and Anderson took a leave of absence from the team . Like all good stories Anderson returned to the team and played lights out in the face of adversity. He totaled 37 saves on his way to preserving the shutout for the Senators.
The best part of the whole story had to be the Edmonton fans. When Anderson was announced as the nights top star, he received a standing ovation from the opposing crowd and goaltender. Extremely respectful gesture from the Edmonton faithful, understanding the bigger picture beyond the rink.
