The Cubs bats have gone absolutely ice cold at the absolute worst time. Over the past two NLCS games, the Cubs have a combined total of six hits and zero runs. ZERO RUNS! The first time in Cubs history that the team has been shutout in back-to-back postseason games. To me, that’s the craziest stat of them all. This is the best Cubs team that I have seen in my 27 years of life, some may argue, the best ever. So, after dropping games two and three of the NLCS and finding themselves down 2-1 to the Dodgers, is it time to panic?
We all know about the “Curse of the Billy Goat.” We’ve all heard the saying, “Cubs are gonna Cub.” Look, this is the best team in baseball. They’ve proven that all season. This team was built for the marathon that is the 162-game MLB regular season (that’s why they won 103 games). The real question is, are they built for the sprint? Can a team keep up with the Cubs in the 162-game marathon? No. But, can a team beat them in the sprint? Possibly.
There is no team in the MLB that can hang with the Cubs over the course of the six month long season. The Playoffs are a different animal. It is possible that a team can beat this Cubs team over the course of seven games, one week.
All in all, I do not believe it is time for Cubs fans to panic. I know the Billy Goat, and Bartman, and a million other times the Cubs have chocked in the postseason is creeping into their minds. This, coming from a Reds fan which is hard to say, is still the best team in baseball and will be until proven otherwise.
