After speculation that Tiger Woods would possibly be playing at next weeks opening tournament of the 2016-17 season, it has been announced that Woods has officially committed to playing at the Safeway Open.
Woods will be returning to action for the first time since 2015 when he played in the Wyndham Championship and finished in in a tie for 10th. Woods is coming off multiple back surgeries over the last year in what has been a very slow recovery process.
The slow process comes in part because the last time Woods came back from a surgery he wasn’t fully recovered and led to him only injuring himself even more. This time around he has taken the process much slower and is being more deliberate about his return.
The Safeway Open in Napa, California will be next week Oct. 13-16, Woods will then also most likely participate in his charity event that he hosts the Hero World Challenge which is held in December.
Many are excited for Woods to finally return to the course because let’s be honest, golf is inevitably more exciting when Tiger Woods is in a tournament field. Pairing for the Safeway Open have yet to be announced, as Phil Mickelson will also headline the tournament field.
