Everyone born after 1985: we need to have a conversation. It’s going to be painful, and you might not like what I have to say. But here it is:
MICHAEL JORDAN WASN’T PERFECT. HE DIDN’T MAKE EVERY SHOT HE EVER TOOK. HE WASN’T A GOOD TEAMMATE. HE COMPLAINED TO REFS. HE GOT HIS WAY MORE THAN LEBRON OR KOBE EVER HAVE. HE NEVER MADE IT OUT OF THE FIRST ROUND WITHOUT SCOTTIE PIPPEN.
Ok, just had to get that off of my chest. It’s been sitting there awhile.
It comes up every time Lebron takes a dribble, or a jumpshot. “Well you know, Michael did that better.” God forbid that Lebron complains to the refs when he gets MAULED every time he steps in the paint.
Which gets me to my point: that our generation, that wasn’t watching Jordan live like we’re watching Lebron live, have been told all of these grand lies that I wrote above about MJ, that he was perfect from the field, the best teammate, didn’t get the calls Lebron/Kobe do, didn’t cry like Kobe/Lebron do, and that all of his accomplishments were his own.
If you only watch the highlights, only listen to the people that like him, and spin every story to be a testament towards his “will to win”, then yeah, Michael Jordan’s the most perfect athlete to ever live. You’d think everybody loved the guy, and that opposing players were asking for autographs after the game. Let’s break down some guys that hated Michael and still do:
Jordan called Barkley a “fat fuck that thinks we’re best friends” during their playing days, and the two haven’t talked since the 90s. Barkley’s comments during Jordan’s first years with Charlotte didn’t help.
Michael Jordan said he wouldn’t play on Team USA if Isaiah were on the team. Putting himself above the interests of the country. Just imagine if that were Lebron…
Former Bulls GM never had a great relationship with Jordan, who went out of his way to call out Krause in his Hall of Fame speech. All Krause did to MJ was surround him with hall of famers during his playing career.
And the list could go on and on and on. But the point remains that there’s a larger than you’d think amount of people that never liked MJ, and never will. Because the guy’s not a nice guy, and ESPN/Nike have brainwashed you into thinking that’s just his “competitive side”. It’s not. For that reason, people didn’t want to play with Michael like they want to play with Bron.
Look at how MJ turned his back on the city of Chicago, retiring without any notice. Twice. And you think Lebron betraying Cleveland was bad? Look at how the Bulls won 55 games the year after MJ walked away. And the Cavs won 19? Look at how Michael took 28 shots per game in his best season, but Lebron took 20. And Lebron’s a ball hog? There’s half a dozen stories of Michael punching teammates in the face. But Lebron’s a bad teammate?
Don’t believe everything ESPN, Nike, and old people have told you, thanks.
